Queer Comedy at Zanies presents The Next Generation

After nearly 3 years of putting together queer inclusive shows, Queer Comedy at Zanies presents a show full of fresh faces from some of Chicago’s top talent and rising stars. The night of Queer Comedy debuts include Joseph William Reese, Drew Anderson, Rachel McCartney, Scott Duff, Graham Aden, Dana Austen and will be co hosted by Adam Guerino and Trannika Rex. Tuesday May 20th, 8:30pm, 1548 N Wells. $15 tickets available at Chicago.zanies.com or at the door.

Queer Comedy at Zanies is co-produced by Adam Guerino and Kris McDermott and has been named the Advocate.com‘s “9 LGBT Friendly Comedy Shows You Should Be Supporting,” featured in Chicago Tribune’s “Stand-up Scene,” Timeout Chicago‘s “Critic’s Pick,” The Redeye’s “Do” and included in Chicago Reader’s “The Agenda” and “Culture Vulture” with the praise “More, please.”

Comedians who have appeared at Queer Comedy at Zanies have also appeared on Conan, Comedy Central, Chelsea Lately, @Midnight, The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson, BET, TBS Just For Laughs, SXSW, Comedy Bang Bang, A Night At The Apollo, and Last Comic Standing. April’s show will feature comedians identifying as lesbian, gay, straight, bi sexual and transexual to continue showing that whether audience members are queer or straight, laughter knows no sexuality.

Guerino has been credited as a “comedian-producer-genius” by Chicago Reader. He is the creator of OutLoud Chicago which has brought queer entertainment to the mainstream for almost 3 years in Chicago as well as Stand Out: The National Queer Comedy Search which partnered with The Advocate Magazine to give queer comedians national exposure. He writes the relationship blog Boyfriend Land and the storyteller blog Before The Story. He has been featured in comedy clubs all across the country and in Timeout Chicago’s Joke of The Week, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Reader, The Redeye, Gaper’s Block, Huffington Post and WBEZ Chicago Public Radio. Trannika Rex is a drag queen and master of ceremonies in Chicago, she is the regular host of Drag Matinee at Berlin nightclub and Trannika’s Most Wanted at Scarlet Bar. Known for her hilarious and scathing sass, boozy and baudy crowd work, the diva brings her comedy styles to Queer Comedy at Zanies for the third time and this time to host..

Joseph William Reese is a Facebook stalker by day and bar manager by night. He is the co-creator and writer for Megan and Meghan The Series on YouTube and is excited to head to Miami at the end of the month where he will see his collaboration with the Miami Gay Men’s Chorus come to life in “Los Quinces.” He has previously worked with Just Dickin’ Around Comedy, Solo in the 2nd City and Raunch!: Tales of Debauchery storytelling series. Drew Anderson is a writer/comedian living in the wonderful city of Chicago. He has had the privilege of writing and performing many of his stories with Serendipity Theatre Collective’s 2nd Story. Most recently, he wrote and shared an essay about his experience as an extra for the live WBEZ program, “Music & Stories.” Drew can be seen performing his comedy all around the city, most frequently at the Paper Machete, Entertaining Julia, 2-Hour Comedy Hour, The Laugh Factory, The Hideout, and the iO Theater. This June he will produce QWEIRDO at the iO Theatre to benefit the Howard Brown Health Center. He also loves writing/performing with his best friend as part of the duo, Drew&Ayala.

Rachel McCartney couldn’t be bothered to write anything funny here because she’s just that arrogant about her act. Just kidding actually she is too nervous to figure out what to write please like me. She has performed in numerous local shows, including 100 Proof Comedy, Brass Chuckles, and Performance Anxiety.

Scott Duff is an Artistic Associate and founding member of About Face Theatre with whom he helped to create over a dozen original works including Xena Live! Parts 1 and 2, We 3 Lizas, and his one-man show, Alone: A Solo Homo A-Go-Go, which premiered at Chicago’s Museum of Modern Art and transferred to iO. He is the host/producer of OUT CHICAGO, a weekly live talk show on Chicago’s Progressive Talk AM & FM, and Chigaygo at Laugh Factory Chicago.

Graham Aden is a comedian and writer from Chicago. In his spare time, he works full-time as a web developer.

Dana Austin is a Comic out of Cleveland, Ohio. She has been a member of the Queer Queens Of Qomedy, Showcased form the Queens of Comedy and Toured Comedy Clubs and Colleges in the US and Canada!

Tuesday May 20th at 8:30pm, Zanies Comedy Club 1548 N Wells. Tickets are $15 and available at Chicago.zanies.com or at the door. Audience members must be 21/+. Two item minimum.
